One reason for members (well, people who are registered), not posting is most likely that they simply don't come on the forum anymore. There will no doubt be countless people who joined then decided for whatever reason that it's not for them maybe. Some people seem to drift in and out of the hobby. I suppose i'm guilty of this sometimes when other commitments take me away from the hobby for a few months every now and then. I actually joined this forum in 2007 and, believe it, or believe it not, forget I'd joined until recently. I was still detecting but had completely forgotten about the forum until we purchased a house north of the border

The idea of a periodic cull of non participating members is a good one. Perhaps people who've not posted for six months or so? That lets me off the hook if I have to hibernate for a few months

P.s Graham, first Christmas without our pal being around this year .............. bless him. He was sorely missed at our club Christmas party :(

It shouldn't really matter when a member last posts, should go on when they last visit the forum, which as we all know, can be seen from the profile.
A member can visit daily without posting, if members are forced to post, just for the sake of staying active on the forum, you may find the forum fills up with unneeded comments.

Then again if it is clear the member has not visited the forum for 6 months to a year then I would consider that a more valid cause, unless ofcourse he/she is banged up in HMP ;)

Good thinking Rob, don't like the idea of forum Police.
For some folks detecting is only a small part of life.
Things like work, family other interests get in the way.
Forced postings like " nice find " just to keep active does not seem right.
Each to their own no problem.........

That's a good decision.
There may be some folk who are inactive in the forum, because of personal reasons, ill health, looking after a loved one, or their job entails a lot of travel.
Then there's me, who can't find anything decent to write about................. :D

Slainte
